Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me..."

Matthew 19:14

At Risen Savior, our Kindergarten program is designed to nurture the whole child — academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. We believe children thrive when they feel known, encouraged, and challenged in a joyful learning environment where curiosity is celebrated and every child is valued as a unique creation of God.

Through engaging, hands-on learning experiences, students build strong foundations in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts, and physical education while meeting the Arizona Academic Standards. Our Kindergarten teacher intentionally creates meaningful opportunities for children to think critically, solve problems, collaborate with classmates, and develop confidence as independent learners.

Our small class size allows for each child to be known personally, providing individualized support while encouraging leadership, creativity, and a love of learning. Rooted in Christian values and enriched through play, exploration, and discovery, our Kindergarten program prepares children not only for future academic success, but for a lifetime of curiosity, compassion, and faith.

Wonder workshop

Wonder Workshop is a dedicated time each day where curiosity leads to learning and every child is seen as capable, creative, and full of potential.

Inspired by the Reggio-Emilia approach, children engage in meaningful investigations that begin with wonder. Through rich literature, open-ended materials, scientific exploration, creative expression, collaborative building, and thoughtful conversation, children are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, solve problems, and discover new possibilities.

By learning alongside their 4-year-old peers, children develop resilience, communication skills, and the academic foundations they'll need for a successful transition to elementary school.

Another bonus provided by the Wonder Workshop is that students get to visit with their 4A and 4B teachers again. Combining familiarity with new experiences helps children feel safe, giving them the extra confidence they need to make mistakes and grow!

A unique foundation for lifelong reading

Learning to read begins long before a child opens their first chapter book.  It begins with listening, speaking, playing with sounds, building vocabulary, and developing confidence through meaningful conversations.
One of the things that makes our Kindergarten program unique is the specialized expertise of our teacher, who is a licensed Speech-Language Pathology Assistant. This expertise is woven into daily classroom experiences, helping children strengthen the foundational skills that support reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication.
Children in our Kindergarten program strengthen the essential early literacy skills through:
Listening and oral language
Rich vocabulary and storytelling
Rhyming and phonological awareness
Letter-sound relationships
Communication and conversation
